Habitat for Humanity York Region builds simple, decent and affordable homes in partnership with the community and with the families who will own them. All homes are built almost completely by volunteers using building materials, land and money donated by individuals, businesses, and various community groups.

Welcome Centre Immigrant Services

Welcome Centre Immigrant Services provide a one-stop service designed to guide and support immigrants through the maze of information and resources in York Region. The Centres are funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada under the Canada-Ontario Immigration Agreement, and managed by community organizations. Services are provided free of charge.

In addition to interpretation and referral services, language assessment and classes, job search workshops and occasional child minding, the new Welcome Centres offer specific programs for newcomer youth and seniors.

Welcome Centres in York Region are located in Markham North, Richmond Hill, Markham South, Vaughan and Newmarket.

Georgina Trades Training Inc.

GTTI is a not-for-profit organization working to bring training opportunities to our community. Programs are coordinated through their local facility in Sutton, which hosts advanced technologies for learning, including video conference capabilities, a computer lab and access to high speed Internet.

York Construction Academy

The YCA prepares specialists to have all the necessary theoretical knowledge and be able to put this knowledge into practice in an entry-level professional capacity.

YCA possesses well-equipped premises where the students take active part in all stages of construction. Students work under the supervision of experienced teachers. The programs include approximately 70% of hands-on experience and 30% of theory. Job search assistance is provided upon successful completion of the course. YCA's database comprises of more than 2000 companies in Ontario.

YCA is registered with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, and is also a member of the Toronto Construction Association.
