    This is a 12- week online program which includes a 4 week paid work placement. During the 12 weeks of the program, participants will benefit from:  Sector- specific language training by a COSTI English Instructor  Employment Preparation and job readiness support  Credential evaluation and support to obtain ECE accreditation  Technical training including Free CPR and First Aid (Level C) Training, Mental Health First Aid, Workplace Health and Safety and Food Handling Certification  4 Weeks Paid work placement with a licensed Child Care Center or EarlyON Child and Family Centre  Early Childhood Education course upgrading with a certified Ontario college Program’s Eligibility Criteria: • Newcomers – Permanent Residents, Convention Refugees or naturalized Canadian Citizens • Professional experience from outside Canada as Early Childhood Educators, Preschool Teachers & Primary Teachers, Bachelors’ of Arts Degree in other related fields such as Psychology, Sociology • English proficiency: CLB Level 5 • Resident of York Region

    This Foundation program is designed to provide Newcomer IEPs with the fundamentals required to be successful in the Canadian workforce to grow your English language and communication skills for the workplace. To make new connections and expand personal and professional networks. To gain knowledge or skills to prepare for the Canadian labour market. Participants gain free access to: Language training and support, Professional and group career coaching, University libraries and services, Opportunities to build your network and connect to events and activities to support your job search.  A fee waiver to cover the cost of two completed university level credit courses in professional business communication, management or business law or IT. Flexible Part-time delivery: Courses are held two evenings weekly blended or online, with additional virtual language support and career workshops.  Options are available to also continue at the University to take an additional course in your professional field during the Winter term. Individuals will have the opportunity to investigate self-employment and access resources and tools to support their decision on this career pathway. There will be scheduled, facilitator-led online workshops and group discussions held Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. This program focuses on helping individuals look at career paths in the non-regulated health care industry where certification may not be required. Participants receive an in depth overview of the Canadian workplace values and expectations, while also learning Canadian workplace terminology and communication.     Language Training at the Workplace (LTW) offers job specific language training to employees who are in need of English as a Second Language based on the request of the employer. Training is provided on or off the employer’s site. Training is customized to the needs of the organizations and their newcomer staff. Employers select the topics and language functions that are most suitable for their business environment. Flexible class schedules can be arranged to accommodate employees’ work hours.
